BEST places for Christmas Magic in NYC

Dec, 2022

THINGS TO DO:

Holiday shops,

Ice skating,

Tree-lightings,

Festive Bars,

and so much more.

Duration: 2 nights
Destination: New York City, USA

I am sure I am not the only one who will tell you this. The Christmas Holiday season is the best time to visit NYC.

Living in New Jersey for the last seven years has given me many chances to visit NYC during the Holiday season. I will share with you my absolute favorite things to do.

1. Rockefeller Center

Known for the most recognized Christmas Tree, NYC’s joy and pride is the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree.  The Christmas season in NYC officially begins after the tree lighting ceremony (free) takes place. People in large numbers gather around for the Lightning ceremony. Check out the Rockefeller Center website for detailed map directions of the area.

To avoid crowds, you can attend the exclusive tree-lighting party.

Interesting facts :

– The tree is illuminated using around 50k LEDs, using a 10km cable.

– First Tree Lightening Ceremony dates back to 1933, and the first tree was brought here in 1931.

– The wood of the tree is given to charity after the lights are off in January.

2. Saks Fifth Avenue

Saks 5th avenue presents a light show every year that is a must-see. The dazzling lights displayed on the building with the Christmas music warms the heart.

The show starts every 10 minutes from 5 pm onwards.

If you turn back, you cannot miss the famous line of angels between the Saks 5th and the Rockefeller Ice skating rink.

3. Bryant park Skating and Holiday Market

Skating for FREE? Well, I am in.  How about you?

There are a few more Holiday markets, like one at Columbus Circle. Although Bryant park comes in a package of Winter Village, Christmas Tree, and a chance of free skating if you have your skates. (rentals are available at the location for $20).

Stroll around the winter village while enjoying a cup of hot chocolate.

Other NYC Holiday markets:

Columbus Circle (November 29 – December 24, 2022)

Brooklyn Borough Hall (November 28th – December 26th)

Union Square (November 17 – December 24, 2022)

Bryant park (October 28, 2022 – January 2, 2023.)

4. Stunning Holiday Lights

One of the most Christmasy things to do in NYC is to visit the Christmas Lights Displays. Here are a few of the most famous ones.

5. Holiday Bar Hopping

Depending on which part of NYC you are hanging out in, these are beautiful Holiday bars turned into Christmas paradise.

– Rolf’s (Gramercy park – 281 3rd Ave, New York, NY 10010)As soon as you enter the Bar, you realize that you have made the best decision to come here. Every corner of Rolf’s shows off its beauty, covered with many Christmas ornaments, garlands, and toys.

The traditional drinks that you do not want to miss here are Mulled Wine and Eggnog.

Note:

It can get pretty crowded in these popular bars. Plan if you would want to visit one of these places, especially Rolf’s.

I would recommend only going to the bar area and trying the drinks. The waiting line for a table to eat in will be very long.

– Oscar Wilde (NoMad – 45 W 27th St, New York, NY 10001)

This is a beautiful place with good vibes are top-notch service. The cocktails are great and moderately priced.

– 230 Fifth Rooftop (NoMad – 230 5th Ave, New York, NY 10001)  My favorite!!!!!

It has a Rooftop with a view of the Empire State Building. Perfect place to get some pictures of surrounding skyscrapers.

It has been a very popular location with good drinks( hot and cold alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages) and a list of great food options. The place is affordable, and the service is excellent as well.

Also, you have the option to book their Igloo for a private party.

Papillon (Diamond District – 22 E 54th St, New York, NY 10022)

You can stop here to see the beautiful Christmas decorations and try their drinks. It is a big place; try to get the table upstairs to see all the beautiful decorations.

– Haven Rooftop at the Sanctuary (Time Square – 132 W 47th St, New York, NY 10036)

6. Holiday Events for NYC Kids

Holiday experiences in NYC is not limited to adults, there is a lot of activities and attractions for all age groups. Check out the article below to learn more about it.

My Tips :

1. Warm Clothing

Make sure you have your warm clothing and boots on; there will be a lot of walking around the streets.

2. Comfortable Footwear

For long strolls, you would want to wear comfortable shoes.

3. MetroCard

To avoid crazy road traffic and expensive parking, the best way to get around the city is to take the subway. It will save you a lot of time and $$$. ($2.75 per swipe for any distance as of Dec 2022)
